Forty Nine Acres

Forty Nine Acres is 2007 Florida-bred who stayed true to his roots, racing exclusively in the Sunshine State at Calder Race Course, Gulfstream Park, and Ocala Training Center. The chestnut gelding finished his racing career after 11 starts, coming in the money nine of those, including a third place finish in the OBS Championship Stakes. Forty Nine Acres was retired to Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care where he received the rest and retraining he needed to move on to another career.

One of Florida TRAC’s volunteers, Robin B., took a liking to Forty Nine Acres, first sponsoring and then adopting the lovable gelding. She has worked to retrain him as a pleasure horse, for which he has shown great talent! His “wonderful personality and calm demeanor” allowed him to be chosen as one of the horses used for Operation 300, a non-profit program which hosts camps for children who have lost their father in military service. Forty Nine Acres was one of seven horses from Florida TRAC who participated in a recent camp, providing riding lessons a fun day of horse experience to the children. While he was a decent racehorse, Forty Nine Acres has found greater meaning in his retirement, bringing joy and comfort to those around him.

Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care is located in Palm City, FL, and was founded in 2009 and accredited by the TAA in 2013. Florida TRAC was created with the purpose of retiring and placing horses that had specifically raced at either Calder Race Course or Gulfstream Park.
