Red Power

Our featured horse this week is Red Power. ‘Sam’ may have come into this world under the pretenses of being a racehorse, but he has found his true calling in life as one of the beloved horses at Square Peg Foundation.

Sam was a solid racehorse in California until an injury retired him from racing at age seven. The big red gelding then found his way to Square Peg where he was renamed after the ’80s rocker Sammy Hagar due to his ‘zest for life.’

Sam fit right in at Square Peg, with his easy-going, steady personality making him a favorite among the many children who find peace and acceptance at the ranch. The ‘Red Rocker’ even showed off his talent with children at the Abilities Expo where he was used as part of a demonstration on the HorseBoy Method which utilizes horses to help children with autism learn to communicate better.

Square Peg Foundation, located in Half Moon Bay, CA, was founded in 2004 on the notion of ‘We turn ‘I wish’ into ‘I can.” Accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance in 2014, Square Peg combines equine-assisted therapy and off-track thoroughbreds with magical results.
