Smoocher

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be highlighting one OTTB each week from our accredited organizations!

Love is in the air with Valentine’s Day just around the corner and the opening of breeding season, who doesn’t love an aptly named Thoroughbred?

Our inaugural OTTB, just in time for Valentine’s Day, is Smoocher! This handsome love bug is a permanent resident of TAA accredited organization Equine Encore Foundation. Smoocher, a 2001 Florida-bred by Kissin Kris (we know where he gets his name!), is a graded stakes winner who raced 44 times before a career-ending injury led him to find his forever home with Equine Encore. Smoocher’s charming ways even caught the attention of the grandson of famed mystery writer J.A. Jance. The young boy fell in love with Smoocher and now sponsors the gelding, even writing him letters!

Equine Encore Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Tucson, AZ. Equine Encore, founded in 2005 and accredited by the TAA in 2013, works to ‘provide a retirement home for racehorses’ who have served the industry well but whose racing careers have come to an end and who deserve to hang up their racing plates and bask in the Arizona sun.’ Learn more about Equine Encore at: http://www.equineencorefoundation.org.
